MATCH PREVIEW | Scholars play final home game of 2026 this Wednesday

In a busy week of action, this Wednesday night sees Leeds Rhinos' Under-16s Scholarship take to the field at Stanningley as they take on West Yorkshire rivals Castleford Tigers in their penultimate match of 2026 live on Rhinos TV+, kick off 7pm.

Simon Brown's side produced a brilliant second-half display to take away a 44-20 result against Wigan a week ago as two tries from Bamidele Olasode on his first Under-16s appearance as well as braces from Wade Smith, and Henry Brough led the scoring as Leeds took away their first win against a Wigan Scholarship side since 2019. Olasode's performance in particular comes as one of a handful of additional community players the club has given opportunities to over the course of the campaign, as he joined Thai Hazelwood, Lennon Kelly and Kaz Ciuraj-Davison in featuring for the Rhinos over the course of the season.

Jordan Barker-Day and Dillon Eshun both contributed to the Wigan win too as Eshun remains one of four players in Brown's team to have played all six matches so far in 2026. Despite not sxcoring against the Warriors, Joe Gill remains the leading try scorer for the Under-16s with four tries this year, whilst Noah Sheriffe overtook Brough for points scored as he took his tally to 30 points for the campaign. Gill was part of the side that won 70-10 against the Tigers Scholars last year as he was joined by current Under-16s Alfie Quinn, Oscar Brown, Ben Smith, Oli Vincent and Dexter Cooper in taking down Castleford.

This week's opponents Castleford have struggled to find results in the six games they've played so far; their sole win came in a 28-12 result against Bradford back in April.

The Tigers returned from the fixture break to face off against Warrington and Hull KR in June - both of which ended in defeat - but Wednesday night gives them a chance to put lessons right against the Rhinos before taking on the Robins for a second time in 2026 in their closing game of the year next week.
